Jacksonville, FL – Mount Carmel Gardens is pleased to announce its Grand Re-Opening after undergoing major renovations. Originally built in 1972 and located in the Southside neighborhood of Jacksonville, Mount Carmel Gardens is a 17-story high-rise that includes 207 efficiency and one bedroom apartment homes for seniors, age 62 and older.
As part of this project, apartment interiors were upgraded with all new cabinets, appliances, ceiling fans, new LTV plank flooring in the kitchen and porcelain in the baths, as well as new mechanical systems and a nurse call system.
Building and common area improvements include all new HVAC, LED lighting and drop-in ceiling, as well as new exterior paint, a new roof and new generator. Resident amenities were also added or upgraded including a screening room, beauty salon, fitness center, library, expanded community room, an outdoor recreational area with cooking grills, gazebo, putting green, shuffle board, bike racks and the addition of a controlled entry system into the building and parking areas.
“This re-development, which was completed ahead of schedule and on budget, is a great example of collaboration between numerous entities executed by a dedicated development team and management company all committed to renewing this property for many years for Jacksonville seniors,” stated Steven Hydinger of BREC Development, LLC.
Many local organizations, financial institutions and government leaders have played a role in the re-development of this project. The general contractor is Empire Construction (Ben Mills, Ben Tullis-Knoxville, TN); architect is GA Studio (Jamie Aycock, Carl Burdick-Birmingham, AL); project manager is CMS Group, LLC (Pat Gaccetta-Jacksonville, FL); property manager is SPM, LLC (Marlene Siberski, Charee Russell, Kelly Mann-Brandon, FL); developer is BREC Development, LLC (Steven Hydinger-Birmingham, AL); and non-profit owner development partner is East Lake Community Development Corp. (Eric Lipp-Birmingham, AL).

Officials from the City of Jacksonville along with Councilman Scott Wilson will join construction and financial partners to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of Mount Carmel Gardens in a private ceremony November 9, with a special resident appreciation ceremony on November 8.
